MESSAGE FROM THE PATRON

I am always delighted and look forward to the beginning of each new season with the MPO, and this 18th anniversary promises to be yet another enriching and inspiring musical journey for all music lovers.

I am aware that the MPO is faced with budget constraints but despite the challenges, the MPO is committed and steadfast to continue to deliver on its objectives, to promote and cultivate the appreciation of classical music. Over the past 18 years, the MPO has slowly but surely built its reputation as an orchestra of international virtuosity both in Malaysia and abroad.

With every new season, we look forward to welcoming an exciting line up of local and international worldclass musicians to the magnificent Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS. I am particularly looking forward to welcome back our Malaysian pianist prodigy, Tengku Ahmad Irfan.

I would like to thank our main donor, PETRONAS, and our sponsors, partners, subscribers and audiences for their continuing support of MPO, the MPO musicians for their splendid performances, and the people behind the scenes – the Board members, management team and all support staff, who continue to give their utmost for the MPO.

Together, let us rejoice and celebrate another wonderful new season!

Acclaimed conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Mark Wigglesworth, Roberto Abbado, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Carl St. Clair, Rossen Milanov, and Guillaume Tourniaire will appear with the MPO. A variety of internationally renowned soloists, including the Choir of Clare College Cambridge, Matthias Goerne (baritone), Stephen Hough (piano), Li-Wei Qin (cello), Nemanja Radulović (violin), and Tamara Wilson (soprano) will also grace the DFP stage.

The popular Brent Havens and his band return to thrill us with the Music of U2, while multi Grammy Award winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo promises to warm our hearts with their soothing harmonies. A semi-staged production of Mozart’s beloved opera The Magic Flute will feature a cast of top international and local singers. The talented Aubrey Suwito will also perform a special concert with a host of local stars. Together with our attractive Family Fun Day series, Chamber Concerts, and Organ Recitals, this season promises to delight a variety of music lovers from all walks of life.

This celebration of music is made possible with the unwavering support of our beloved Patron, YABhg Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Bt Haji Mohd Ali and PETRONAS’ commitment towards performing arts in Malaysia.

My sincere appreciation also to all our valued sponsors, subscribers, supporters and wonderful audiences.

May our days be filled with harmony and our lives enriched with beautiful melodies.
